As Outlook is utilized for sending messages, previously used email addresses will be remembered in a small database list known as the Outlook AutoComplete list. This list is used by both the automatic name-checking feature and the automatic completion feature. The problem arises when incorrect email addresses are saved to this file, then automatically added to new messages, replies and forwards.
Steps for resolving undeliverable messages due to incorrect email addresses added by Outlook AutoComplete:
Solution 1: Remove individual addresses from Outlook AutoComplete list.
As you type an address in the Outlook “To…” field, a list of available, previously used email addresses may pop up in a context menu. When this happens, examine the list and delete (click the X next to the entry) any addresses ending “smr.local”, or beginning with an underscore “_”.
Solution 2: Remove all addresses from Outlook AutoComplete list, or disable the AutoComplete feature.
To access the AutoComplete settings, follow these steps:
From within Outlook, go to the File menu and click Options.
Select the Mail tab from the left column.
Scroll approximately halfway down until you see Send messages. The “Use Auto-Complete List to suggest names when typing in the To, Cc, and Bcc lines” box is checked by default.
Click the “Empty Auto-Complete List” button to delete all entries and reset the list.
Or uncheck the box next to “Use Auto-Complete List to suggest names when typing in the To, Cc, and Bcc lines” to completely disable the feature.
